Bioactivity studies of different solvent extracts of partially defatted coconut testa obtained from selected coconut cultivars

Purpose: Coconut testa is a byproduct of coconut industry and currently used for oil extraction. The partially defatted residue underutilized despite being able to convert into flour (CTF). objective the present study was compare bioactivity different solvent extracts CTF obtained from selected Sri Lankan cultivars namely, Gon Thambili (GT), Ran (RT), San Raman (SR), Tall×Tall (TT) commercial hybrid (COM). Research Method: individual sequentially extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc) methanol (MeOH). total phenolic content (TPC), flavonoid (TFC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), DPPH radical scavenging activity, alpha amylase (Alpha-amy) alpha-glucosidase (Alpha-glu) inhibitory activities were established in vitro using relevant assays. phytochemical profiling done ultra high pressure liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Findings: Among extracts, MeOH all displayed significantly higher TPC, TFC, Alpha-amy activities. GT exhibited highest TPC (102.48 ± 3.46 GAE/g crude extract), TFC (63.49 4.47 CE/g FRAP value (1097.23 1.24 µmol FeSO4/g activity (IC50, 45.37 1.94 ppm) while TT resulted 80.09 4.67 ppm). EtOAc extract showed Alpha-glu 7.82 0.40 distribution constituents found vary among cultivars. Value: This concludes that potent source bioactive compounds claim various bioactivities which can be developing functional foods.
